Saturday Dec 16th 2007
DE Lower

Box Squat (ridiculously low 8-9") Light bands- 10 sets of 2 @ 225 with suit bottoms on. This was productive, felt good hitting the crazy IPF depth in the suit bottoms, speed was respectable. light bands+ 315X1, LB+405X1, LB+ 455X1 suit straps up for this one. Not bad out of the bottom, but the bands make it feel like it's crazy heavy at the top.

GHR- 3 sets of 15
leg extensions- 3 sets of 15

Squats- worked up to 475X1 raw, 500Xmiss, 500Xmiss, Suit on now, 500X1, 515X1 (this was the best rep of the day), 525X1 (PR)

I am happy to say I hit depth very consistently without thinking about it that much, I alway feel high but my partners always tell me I'm deeper than I need to be. I just wish I could break the 500 mark raw. It feels like it's right there.

Unfourtunately I couldn't do my supplemental and accesory work as I had to train clients, I plan on doing the accesory work on Friday night.

Shirt work

Bench-135X8, 185X6, 225X5, 275X4, 315X2 (all raw)
Shirt on-365X1 off 1 board, 375X1 off 1 board with long pause, 375X no touch, 385X1 touch and go, 385X1 good pause but bar is touching on belly, 385X1 same as before, the touch is low on the gut but at least the press feels easy,
put on fresh shirt (I have 2 shirts of the same size and model but one is new and tight and stiff) 385X stopped where a 2 board would be.

The goal of the shirt session was to get a lift that will pass at the OPA meet in late Jan. I' still not satisfied.

Chins- 4 sets of 10

Seated DB pwr cleans- 2 sets of 20

Saturday Jan 5th 2007
Events (takin' it easy)

Axle C+P- worked up to 240, practiced the Karlson clean instead of the chest busting continental. THis went well, I'm getting it down pretty good.

Stones- 255 for a few warm-ups, Stone run 230 to 60"-255 to 56"-290 to 54"-320 to 51"X2, this felt real good, I didn't want to miss.
second run was the same as above but added the 300 before the 320,
some reps 290 to 60" X2, 255 to 60"X6

There was a famous general of an army who was given orders to go to a foreign land and fight to conquer this land. His army was small in number and had to travel far by sea to get to this land. His enemy was greater in number, had stronger soldiers, and had more weapons. These soldiers were waiting and prepared for battle with this general and his army. The general’s men were nervous, fearful, and unconfident. They couldn’t understand how they were supposed to win and why their general would lead them into such a battle. When the general and his army arrived on the shores of the land, they were ordered to conquer. The general summoned all his men to gather together. He then ordered a few of his men to go back and burn the ships while the others watched. The men were confused and fearful as to why the general was burning their ships.

It was at that time the general addressed all of his men and said, “Men, I believe we will be victorious because you have the hearts of warriors and you have never given up before. Yes, it is true they are bigger in number and stronger in size and more skilled in weapons. However, they do not have the heart that you have and are not nearly as motivated. You see, men, we now have no way home and you have two choices. You can fight with heart and live or battle in fear as a coward and die.”

Shoulders and elbows are feeling beat up and this session was more or less going through the motions and getting the blood flowing.

Bench-135X10, 135X15, 135X15, 225X14

DB extensions- 25lbs for 25 reps, 3 sets

Face pulls- 3 sets of 20
Lat pull downs-3 sets of 20
band pull aparts- 3 sets of 20

These sesions are not fun, as I feel like nothing is getting done.

Deadlift (this was just to try out my metal deadlifter)- 135X10, 315X5, 315X3, suit on 495X1 sumo, 495X1conv, 585X1sumo, 585X1 conv, 585X1sumo, 585X1conv.
The suit doesn't really turn my crank. I can't decide if it's better sumo or conv. I think it helps more pulling conv. but I probably won't use it next weekend.
Oh and 585 was cake

Squats- 225X5, 315X5, 405X5, 425X5
Felt good, deep and no belt

GHR- 4 sets of 15
sit-ups- 4 sets of 20

Chirt work (this will be the last chirt session before the meet. The goal was to get the bar to touch in a legal position and determine my opener. I knew there would be some experimentation required to get this working for me)

Bench- 135X10, 225X5, 225X5, 275X3 extended pause on chest, practice like you play, 315X2
chirt on, no belt, raise arms up to loosen effect of chirt 315X2 no touch, this didn't work.
365X1 belt on shirt still loose, 405X1 belt and chirt pulled down tight, 425X1, 425X1PR, I still can't say for sure if the touch is high enough on my chest but I know I can get it down easily with heavier weight. I think I'm going to open with 385lbs. I've hit this wegiht many times in the gym. My only concern would be not getting it down, but I can always jump up to 405 and get the touch for sure.

DB extensions- 4 set of 30 reps
Face pulls- 4 sets of 20
Lat pull downs- 4 sets of 20

The high reps work took all the pain from the chirt away. (wrists and elbows)

I gave myself a 90 second time limit on the last 2 sets to try and get as many as possible. The first timed set, I just went to town and was gassed quickly and pretty much just got 5 in 90 seconds. On the second timed set (the last set of 235) I did 2 reps, rested 5 seconds, did 1 rep, rested 5, 1 rep, rest 5, 1 rep. rest 5, and it only took 1 minute to get 5 reps.
The garage was hot and I sweated from start to finish.

I fell behind on my log, but I've got it all right here for your viewing pleasure.

I also want to comment on how important using the collars on barbells is when you lift in the gym.
A young guy in one of our gyms was benching without collars the other night, I've told him many times to please use collars and ask for a spot. But he likes to bench two wet socks that are too heavy for him without collars. And sure enough, he dumped it and each side went flying off the bar and crashing onto the floor. One side just barely missing another members legs.
I was more than a little pissed off, but I stayed pretty calm, as I think he felt pretty foolish as the gym was pretty packed. But I got even more upset when I asked him about it and he told me that not using the collars saved him....well....I snap...Lose it.. (not quite) but I told him in a less than friendly tone that it's not him we were worried about, it's the other people in the gym that get hit with the flying weights and usually end up hurt.

If you are foolish enough to lift more than you can handle, at least be considerate and use the collars and protect your fellow gym members.

May I take this opportunity to ask all of those that may be reading this to never, ever, do barbell curls in the squat rack. Doing such an annoying act in one of my gyms is the equivalent to taking a dump on my lunch just before I am about to eat.
Seriously, do you need a fucking rack to stand there and curl? Put the bar on the floor and bend over and pick it up. If you can't deadlift what you can curl, please re-evaluate your methods.
